Acheron River Walk
The river Acheron’s origins are located east of the town of Gliki in central-western Epirus; the ancients believed that this river served as the entrance to Hades, the Underworld. The lovely setting is home to a variety of wildlife. The path ascends opposite but parallel to the river for 300 meters before arriving at the large spring of Acheron. The journey begins in the parking lot. Following the river into the canyon, the path has a several river crossings before coming close to Skala Tzavelaina. The valley and springs have a special atmosphere, and the surrounding terrain is striking.
